Holiday Events Not to Miss!

If you’re planning on being in DC or traveling to DC for the winter or holiday season there are plenty of touristy, as well as holiday, events to experience. Whether you are looking to see a play at the historic Ford theater, go visit the endless train set display at the botanical gardens, or go ice skating at the National Gallery of Arts and Sculpture, you can do so all while staying at the finest hotels that Washington DC has to offer.

Chinatown Christmas Market

Christmas Markets are always a staple of the season- and this year DC is sporting a great market in Chinatown with local artisans, street food and live music! The market runs from November 30th to December 23rd and is right near the national Portrait Gallery and the Spy Museum (which has a great James Bond exhibit running right now). A hotel that is located just steps away from all of these attractions is the Hotel Monaco, Washington D.C. sporting the delicious Poste Moderne Brasserie and fun colorful design this hotel is as lively as the area it’s in.

National Christmas Tree Lighting

Located close to many holiday events on M street is the Madison Hotel. Currently they are offering a holiday promotion with rooms start as low as $129 per night. This includes complimentary WiFi, 300 count Egyptian cotton sheets, products by C.O. Bigelow, concierge service, i-Home docking systems, and most importantly, an extremely convenient location to many events. The Madison is located just blocks from the lighting of the National Christmas tree and National Menorah. This year the tree is being lit on December 6 so go by and see this national attraction on or any time after. Another close by attraction is the Seasons Greetings at the Botanical Gardens. This exhibit has many live ornaments and poinsettia decorations. For more details on events close to the Madison, check out this Event Calendar.

A Christmas Carol at Fords Theater

Another hotel centrally located in the metropolitan area on K street is the St. Regis DC. Their current promotionis the gift of an extra night. By staying two nights at the St. Regis you will receive the gift of a free night for a stay at a later time. A large perk of staying at the St Regis is that they have parking at a reasonable cost. Other amenities offered are two LCD TVs, one in the bathroom, daily newspaper, Pratesi bed linens, bathrobes, and a fully stocked mini bar. The St. Regis is located literally across the street from the White House, so after taking in the thousands of Christmas lights, you can also walk to the iconic Ford’s Theater to see the classic, a Christmas Carol. Tickets sell out fast for this show so be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time at this website. Keep in mind that there are plenty renditions of this play going on at a variety of DC venues. For a full list of times and locations you can go here.

Festive Bar Crawls

Holiday Bar Crawls are storming the DC and Dupont Circle Area! If you missed this weekend’s ugly holiday sweater bar crawl- don’t fret. There is always the “Snow Day” bar crawl which gets you deals on 9 Dupont-area staples including Madhatter and Blackfinn. A hotel that is perfect for this kinda night is The Fairfax Washington D.C., which is not only in walking distance of all of these bars, but it is right next to the metro stop! No taxi or google maps needed to find your way back to this swanky stay!

Holiday Shopping in Georgetown

If you are looking to stay in a shopping district, then staying in Georgetown at the Four Seasons Washington DCis a perfect fit. Surrounded by tons of clothing and specialty shops it is the perfect place to do some last minute holiday shopping or to treat yourself. Currently the Four Seasons is offering the best available room rate from now until December 31. For details, click here. The best complimentary service offered by this hotel is its sedan service. Running all day, starting at 8:00 AM on weekdays and 10:00 AM on weekends, the sedan service will take you to all of the major DC attractions including memorials, galleries, and the national mall.

National Zoo Lights

Part of experiencing the city is just walking and absorbing the decorations and lights. One of the best places to experience this is the National Zoo, which hosts Zoo Lights over the holiday season! Free of charge, you can go and see the nocturnal animals while walking through a custom designed winter wonderland. For paid attractions the zoo is offering. We can also reccomend that you stay just a block from the National Zoo at the Marriott Wardman Park. This hotel is great for big groups as it has banquet halls and numerous restaurant selections. But what we love most about this hotel is that it is tucked away from the sights and sounds of the city in its own green oasis. It is on a hill though, so great views of the city can be offered from the top rooms!
