Although most 20 somethings may not have the collateral to stay at ritzy hotels they surely can make or break them! A great bar can be decided by the crowd they attract, so many hotels in DC pay extra attention to their bar’s ambiance, exuding a sleek, expensive look that creates the scene to be seen. The mod bedrooms may hold less importance to this audience than the bar scene, however we will cover both in this trendy review of DC’s modern hotel scene.
For the young and the young at heart, we give you The DuPont Hotel, who’s title is as simple as their decor. Facing the landmark DuPont Circle known as the heart of DC nightlife the boutique hotel offers us DuPont Cafe and DuPont Bar, easily accessible by metro and highly visible from the circle. The colored lights and floor to ceiling glass exterior of these watering-holes draw the eye in as the house music and well styled drinks bring more class than most bars in the area. The meeting spaces and lobby are sleek but are also a stark and cold contrast to the lush warm feeling of the hotels rooms and suites. A rather shocking difference, but I was happily met by both the bar and the bedroom!
Located in the upcoming U street area, just blocks away from DuPont and Logan Circles, Hotel Helix is in the perfect location. It is in walk-able distance to great DC neighborhoods , nightlife, metro and businesses. Yet, it is notably separated from the touristy capitol hill area. Appealing to a young businessperson Helix offers 10% off a business related stay, has a complementary coffee and tea in the morning and a social happy hour in their lounge every evening. A great value for the money. They offer in-room spa treatments and also have yoga gear available to the more flexible guests. Animal and gym lovers are well taken care of here and the staff has earned a reputation for friendly service. The modern furniture splashed with bold colors and pop art has an eclectic personality that appeals to worldly 20-35, but if that doesn’t hook’em there are are always the $1 drinks! Cheers to that!
Alright politico’s your turn, our Capitol Hill hype hotel : Liaison
With the major selling point on the ‘hip factor’ being the great rooftop pool and bar, Liaison gathers the ambitious inhabitants of the congressional offices and hosts many lobbyists that are flowing through town. So yes, it is very well named! It’s restaurant Art and Soul modernizes southern comfort food and may just remind travelers that they have technically entered the south. The bachelor-pad feel of the rooms are as comfortable and warm as the southern cooking. In our minds this hotel is made for a single man, but ranks high for both sexes as an Excellence Award winner on TripAdvisor Conveniently close to the capitol and its sights the view does not disappoint. We suggest soaking it in by taking a rooftop yoga class!
Whether it be the hipster or gay community, they have moved in and flipped the U street neighborhood faster than you can say frozen yogurt! What use to be a shady corner of DC is now an antiquing, sushi loving, bar-hopping community moving up in popularity. So wherever you stay, make sure you check out the transforming local flavor of U Street.
