DC’s Best Staycation

For parents that don’t want to drive cross-country with “are we there yets” imitating from the back seat, or for dads who left ‘blankie’ on the airplane from Orlando, forget the stress of travel.  This summer, make vacation a stay-cation!

National Harbor is a relatively new area. It has clean sidewalks, the latest stores and boutiques, and a great view of the Potomac River.  The area is also geared toward family visits with farmers markets on Saturdays, live music, ice cream shops, a beach and a full zip-lining course – it was built to entertain!  Also, National Harbor offers outdoor movies, paddle boats, sail boats, Segway and kayak rentals for adventurous families topped off with fireworks every weekend!  Add that to the Gaylord National, and you have a full weekend ahead of you!

The Gaylord National is monstrous, in a good way.  Housing ballrooms, meeting rooms, restaurants and shops, the Gaylord’s guest rooms either overlook the water or the indoor courtyard, which is complete with trees colonial style shops and a fountain.  The hotel isjust steps away from the National Harbor Convention Center –an ideal location if you are traveling on business. Relax with a visit to the Relache Spa, sit by the Olympic size pool or go dancing at the pent house bar Pose.  The whole family can enjoy the Potomac Playzone, the Gaylord’s in house Arcade or watch the courtyard fountain show from your room.

Plan your visit during one of the great events that come through the harbor, like The Crab and Beer Festival or the Classic Car Show. The hotel is offering family packages called Summer Fun with Shrek and Friends, where kids get to meet Shrek, Fiona and Puss in Boots! It’s like Orlando is coming to D.C.!

Conveniently separated from the D.C. bustle, but easily accessible just across the water from Alexandria, VA, this hotspot will take you out of your normal routine and provide yourkids with a great vacation! All without having to go through security or spend hours in the car.  Get away without going far, at this D.C. stay-cation at The Gaylord National.
